Is it just me or will the speculation about Mac World San Francisco be batshit mental this year?

Those of you who still think that England can win the ashes should note that a certain Mr Warne is yet to take a wicket. However, please remember that England do not have to win to retain the urn. Three draws and one win is all that’s needed.

When you do nothing all day work from home you get to see some a shit load of daytime television.

Today my attention was distracted to The Jeremy Kyle Show. A cheap and typically British rip off of Jerry Springer. Today a young girl had told ‘a bloke she knew’ that she was pregnant and he was the father. He wasn’t so sure but in his defence he was willing to accept it might be his.

The best part was the sister of said pregnant lady who ‘went to town’ on the young man for about twenty minutes* she told the audience what a lying skank he was.

The next best bit  was the DNA test. Turned out he wasn’t the father - he jumped up and down like he’d scored the winning goal in the world cup final. She ran off in tears but they asked the sister to return and Jeremy Kyle told her, in no uncertain terms, that she was a liar who’d done a terrible things.

Then, pure magic. Jeremy said to the sister that she should apologise to the young man for spreading such malicious and untrue rumours about him. She said ‘what for I’ve done nothing wrong’

At that point my will broke and I switched off.

I need some more work. Please God find me something to do before I end up watching 8 Simple Rules all day.****

* I switched off and returned**
** Honestly***
*** No really
**** Too late

Turns out that I’ve got it all wrong. The girl wasn’t pregnant she’d already had the baby and he’d had the name of the child tattooed on to his forearm - tastefully in some far eastern script - EVEN THOUGH he didn’t think it was his child. The mother denies that there can be another father. The only good thing about all this is that it proves I wasn’t really watching the Jeremy Kyle show (all that closely).

I like to read, as much as possible, blogs and newspapers that politically I don’t agree with. I often take the Daily Mail or if I’m feeling particularly militant the Daily Express (The Mail’s paramilitary wing). Stuff like The Mighty Righty or Michelle Malkin always interests me because no matter how well thought out their arguments I just can’t come to terms with their unswerving view that they are right and everyone else is Liberal wrong.

Every now and again they say something so outrageous (that is I personally find it outrageous) that I swear never to go back again as it’s bad for my heart. But time passes and I think to myself hey I wonder what that lovely Michelle’s been up to.

Today Michelle is writing about a UCLA student that was tasered by security for not showing them ID and being a bit of a prick Now I’m not sure who’s wrong and who’s right but it’s good that there’s a healthy debate about security issues and ID cards and students being pricks but what I can’t stand is hypocrisy.

Michelle, bless her conservative heart, is on the side of the security forces. She’s posted the video of the incident on her site.

Been getting e-mails about this all night. Here’s the video. The usual police-bashers are attacking campus security for taking extreme measures when the student repeatedly refused to show ID and physically defied them. The student is out of control. A mob forms. Did the officers overreact? (Let me be clear: If those officers broke any laws, they should be prosecuted. But the whole story needs to be told.) Who baited whom? Click to watch:

See how balanced that is? She states her case and at the end remembers to point out that though she’s on the side of the security guard, if those guards have done something illegal they should be punished. Ok then, super, we can all go on with our lives. Hold on though, what’s this?

The Los Angeles Times, naturally, is trying to turn this latest videotaped incident into a broad-brushed excuse to tar all law enforcement.

Broad brush? Tar all law enforcement? that’s just not right is it? It’s certainly not balanced and fair on the law enforcement community. Those of you with irony meters will no doubt see where I’m going with this.

Let’s scroll on down a read the other entries on Michelle’s blog shall we. Not far down the page we have an entry titled ‘Open borders consequences, continued‘ What could this be about?

Well it’s about an illegal alien who killed someone.

Michelle prepares a big bucket ‘o tar and an even bigger brush and writes

If our physical borders were adequately enforced, if illegal alien smuggling laws were adequately enforced, if employer sanctions were adequately forced, and if illegal alien sanctuary laws were abolished, Diego Pillco would never have been able to come here, stay here, work here, and kill here. And Adrienne Shelly would be alive today.

Basically all illegal immigrants are killers and if the borders were closed nobody would die. How balanced and fair.

What a good idea that was. Who, and I mean WHO, thought it would be a good idea to start charging for current accounts. Even if every other high street bank follows suit in three months’ time one of them will run an advert stating they’re bringing back free bank accounts and then as the domino effect kicks in we’ll all be back to getting a free service. On the Today programme this morning the business guy asked the First Direct spokesperson why they were targeting the less well off and it was all he could do not to say ‘we don’t want those scrubbers anyway and that’s why we’re doing this’

Unless it was a PR balloon for the HSBC group of course.

In the last two days this blog has been targeted for spam. I’m getting about thirty and hour. As I moderate all comments before I publish them it’s nothing more than an inconvenience. I just don’t understand what’s going on. What is the benefit of sending an email that looks like this?

We spent the weekend (and the rest) in Spain at my mum’s new house. It’s a villa about twenty minutes from Alicante.Typically it rained from the moment we arrived till twenty minutes before we were due to leave but it was great to be there. I really like Spain, the landscape of the southern coast especially. Once you’re away from the tourist trap playas and costas the mountains and valleys seem to take on an almost alien look and feel. Then out of nowhere the road opens up and you find yourself in an established town.
