Where have all the spammers come from?

In the last two days this blog has been targeted for spam. I’m getting about thirty and hour. As I moderate all comments before I publish them it’s nothing more than an inconvenience. I just don’t understand what’s going on. What is the benefit of sending an email that looks like this?

    Isn’t it so that the links to their sites get published all over the place, regardless of the gibberish content, so their Google pagerank climbs?

    It’ll gobble up the spam before it’s published - you can even turn off comment moderation completely, it’s that good. And I’ve not had one false positive yet.

    Oh it’s from those lovely Wordpress people too.
