Back in the day, before any of you lot knew me, I used to be interested in music CDs and the equipment that you played them on. Today while I was un-boxing some stuff at the house I found two things that took me right back to those days. The first was a very short length of speaker cable and the second was Summerteeth by Wilco.
The speaker cable was hideously expensive bi-wire stuff that I used to swear by. Interestingly even though I can remember it was really expensive I can’t remember the manufacturer. I used to think that by buying the most expensive audio equipment I could afford it made the music sound better. I’m older now and a bit deaf so know better.
Summerteeth by Wilco was one of the last albums I bought because of a recommendation I read in a magazine. It was probably Q or Melody Maker perhaps even NME I’m not sure but by god it’s a fantastic album. I’m sure it’s not to everyone’s tastes but today is the first time I head it in about six years and I still think it’s great.
It’s interesting that this information had completely left my brain. I suppose it’s a symptom of getting older, the more you take in the more you push out. Until I opened the box an clapped eyes on the cover of the CD I had completely forgotten about the album and the music contained therein.
On top of that I’ll be 30 in 154 days. Shit.
