On the 17th of August Joanne’s grandad was taken into hospital with a lung infection. Shortly after he was told that a shadow on his lung was cancer. This cancer had spread to his pancreas and lymph nodes. His age (82) meant that an operation was pointless as it would likely kill him and that the most the hospital could offer was a helping hand to ease the pain when ever it came. The doctor at the hospital said he had about a month to live, which really put some perspective on things. Well that’s a month gone and he’s still here. A few days ago I took him to the cancer unit at Cookridge hospital to have further x-ray and blood tests. The results were identical but this time we got to spend some time in the ‘family room’. If you’re ever in doubt as to the results of any medical test then the minute you’re invited in to a room with soft furnishings and a cupboard full of tissues you can assume the worst. Still, every day from now is a bonus.
